The Government of Uganda, through the Manifesto Implementation Unit under the Office of the President, officially launched the Manifesto Accountability Week on Friday, November 15, 2024.
This annual event, held at the Office of the President Conference Hall, was presided over by the Minister for the Presidency, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, representing Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja. Running until December 5, 2024, the week is a platform for assessing progress on the commitments outlined in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Manifesto 2021-2026 under the theme “Securing Your Future.”
Hon. Babalanda highlighted that the NRM government has achieved an impressive 84% implementation rate at the manifesto’s midterm, fulfilling 681 out of 809 promises.
The Manifesto Accountability Week aims to enhance public awareness of these achievements while addressing implementation challenges. Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and local governments will provide live presentations detailing progress, with interactive sessions allowing citizens to ask questions and seek clarifications.
“Transparency and accountability are key to building trust between the government and the people,” stated Willis Bashaasha, Director of the Manifesto Implementation Unit. “This week is a platform to celebrate milestones, address challenges, and reaffirm our commitment to delivering on the social contract with Ugandans.”
Local leaders, including Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), will appear on regional media platforms to inform communities about the government’s achievements in their localities. Additionally, social media, websites, print media, and souvenir magazines will ensure that this information reaches a wide audience.
Prime Minister Nabbanja urged government officials, local leaders, and party structures to intensify efforts in communicating the progress and strategies for completing pending commitments. “We are determined to achieve 100% implementation of our manifesto commitments by 2026,” she affirmed.
Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, Chairperson of the Manifesto Draft Committee, expressed confidence that the remaining 16% of commitments would be delivered within the next two years. He emphasized the government’s dedication to building a prosperous and secure future for all Ugandans.
As the Manifesto Accountability Week unfolds, Ugandans are encouraged to actively participate in discussions and engagements to better understand the government’s efforts. With continued dedication and public support, the NRM government is confident in achieving its vision of transforming Uganda into a middle-income country by 2040.
Well done 👍, thanks
