The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has announced an extension of the census exercise until May 25, 2024. This decision, conveyed in a statement by UBOS Executive Director, Dr. Chris Mukiza, on Saturday, May 18, 2024, aims to address several challenges encountered during the enumeration process.
Dr. Chris Mukiza highlighted various obstacles faced during the census, including difficulties reaching certain areas, equipment malfunctions, delayed payments, inadequate training for enumerators, and limited access to the UBOS system. These issues resulted in incomplete enumeration in some regions.
The extension intends to ensure comprehensive coverage by focusing on areas that encountered challenges during the initial phase of the census. Dr. Chris emphasized that local authorities have been informed of the extension to facilitate complete enumeration and maintain quality assurance.
With the extended deadline, UBOS aims to overcome hurdles and achieve accurate and reliable census data for informed decision-making and policy formulation in Uganda.
