Moses Nsereko, a man never far from the political spotlight or controversy has announced his intention to challenge Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, for the presidency of the National Unity Platform (NUP), injecting his signature comic bravado into what is quickly becoming a high-stakes internal contest.
Speaking in his usual dramatic style during an interview on Sanyuka Television, Nsereko dismissed the idea of political untouchables, declaring that the time had come to test the true meaning of people power starting from within the party. He was animated, witty, and unfiltered, a performance that both entertained and unsettled political watchers.
His announcement has added flair to Uganda’s already vibrant opposition scene. Known for his comic timing, unpredictable political stunts, and sharp one-liners, Nsereko once again turned a political declaration into public theatre. But behind the theatrics, he insists, lies a genuine call for democratic practice in NUP.
The former Kawempe North parliamentary hopeful, who previously defied party lines to run as an Independent after losing the NUP ticket to Elias Nalukoola, argues that no leader should be above competition not even Bobi Wine.
Party loyalists, however, have questioned his credibility and accused him of undermining unity for personal gain. Despite the criticism, Nsereko remains undeterred, claiming that leadership is not a coronation but a contest.
The flamboyant politician maintains that if he loses the NUP presidency, he will throw his full support behind Kyagulanyi in the national race but not without first shaking the table.
As 2026 draws closer, Nsereko’s bold bid equal parts comedy, controversy, and calculated challenge is likely to keep Ugandans both entertained and intrigued about the future of Uganda’s top opposition party.
