The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) made a significant announcement through a press statement released by Brig. General Felix Kulayigye, Director Defence Public Information.
The statement outlined the commencement and procedures for the upcoming recruitment exercise, scheduled to begin on July 1, 2024, and conclude on July 14, 2024.
Aspiring candidates seeking to join the regular force will undergo a meticulous selection process. Recommendations from various local authorities, including LCI, LCII, LCIII, GISO, and DISO, will be essential. These recommendations will be followed by the submission of application forms to the office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for registration. Upon registration, applications will be collected by UPDF collection teams and forwarded to the office of Joint Staff Human Resource Management for shortlisting.
Successful applicants will be notified through publication/display on District/City notice boards, prompting them to appear at designated recruitment centers for final interviews.
The recruitment will be conducted based on projected population figures of each District/City of Uganda, serving as the basis for recruitment quotas. These quotas are determined by the proportion of the population in each City/District, as updated by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) as of June 25, 2023.
Covering all 135 districts and 11 cities, the recruitment will be organized into 10 zones, including Buganda, Busoga, Bukedi/Teso, Midwestern, Kampala Extra, Rwenzori Region, Northern, Karamoja/Sebei, West Nile, and Western.
The entire recruitment process will span 56 days, encompassing submission, verification of applications, and final recruitment of successful candidates. All participants will be issued a security pass.
To be eligible, candidates must meet specific criteria:
- Citizenship of Uganda with an original National Identity Card.
- Fitness for medical and body fitness tests.
- Age between 18 and 22 years.
- Completion of formal education at S.4 (UCE) level between 2020 and 2023, with passing grades in English and Mathematics.
- Residency in the area of application, with a clean disciplinary record and no criminal record.
This announcement marks the beginning of an important phase for aspiring candidates seeking to serve their country through the UPDF.
