U.S. President Donald Trump has issued what he called a “last warning” to Hamas, demanding the immediate release of all hostages in Gaza.

Posting on Truth Social, Trump threatened Hamas with total destruction if they did not comply, promising to send Israel “everything it needs to finish the job.” His remarks came shortly after meeting with eight freed hostages at the White House.

The warning follows confirmation that the U.S. is now engaging in direct negotiations with Hamas, a move that breaks with its longstanding policy of not talking to groups it designates as terrorist organizations.

The decision to engage directly with Hamas has raised questions, as both the Obama and Trump administrations previously made exceptions in negotiations with the Taliban. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the talks, stating that the U.S. special envoy for hostages has the authority to engage with any party necessary.

Meanwhile, Israeli officials acknowledged the discussions but did not clarify whether they had prior knowledge or approval of them. Israel has also halted humanitarian aid into Gaza, citing Hamas’ refusal to accept new ceasefire terms.

Trump’s comments have sparked backlash from Hamas, which accused him of undermining the fragile ceasefire and emboldening Israel’s hardline stance. Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem claimed the group had already met its obligations in the first phase of the hostage release agreement, but that Israel was now avoiding negotiations for the next phase.

The dispute over hostages and ceasefire conditions has intensified amid growing international calls for Israel to facilitate humanitarian aid to Gaza, where the majority of the population relies on external assistance.

International leaders, including the foreign ministers of the U.K., France, and Germany, have urged Israel to fulfill its obligations under international law and allow the delivery of vital food, water, and medical supplies.

The humanitarian crisis has worsened, with warnings from U.N. agencies that aid blockages could force dozens of community kitchens to close and create dire conditions for women and children. The situation remains highly volatile, with Trump’s escalating rhetoric further complicating diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire.
