President Yoweri Museveni has promoted five Senior Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP), aligning their positions with the requisite ranks for their current roles.
President Yoweri Museveni has elevated five Senior Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP), the third-highest rank in the Uganda Police Force.
This decision ensures that key departmental heads hold ranks commensurate with their responsibilities, thereby enhancing operational efficiency.
The officers promoted are:
James Apora: Director of Logistics and Engineering
Lawrence Niwabiine: Director of Traffic Police
Joseph Obwona: Director of Interpol
Steven Tanui: Director of Fire and Rescue Services
Geoffrey Musana: Deputy Director of Logistics and Engineering
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke confirmed the promotions, emphasizing that they were necessary to align the officers’ ranks with their current leadership roles. Prior to their elevation, Apora, Niwabiine, Obwona, and Tanui were serving as directors in an acting capacity.
The promotion to AIGP formalizes their positions, as directors within the Uganda Police Force are required to hold this rank.
These promotions are part of a broader effort to bolster the leadership structure of the police force, ensuring that departments such as Logistics and Engineering, Traffic Police, Interpol, and Fire and Rescue Services are led by officers with the appropriate authority and recognition.
The elevation of Geoffrey Musana to Deputy Director of Logistics and Engineering further strengthens the department’s leadership, aiming to improve logistical operations and support within the force.
By promoting these officers, President Museveni underscores his commitment to enhancing the effectiveness and professionalism of the Uganda Police Force, ensuring that leadership roles are occupied by individuals with the requisite rank and experience.
