Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during his trip to the United States, expressed cautious optimism that the war with Russia may be nearing its end.
He is set to present a peace plan to President Joe Biden, emphasizing that the conflict could conclude sooner than many expect—though victory hinges on strengthening Ukraine’s military forces.
As the war between Ukraine and Russia rages on, President Volodymyr Zelensky has taken a bold step, expressing cautious optimism that peace may be within reach. During his trip to the United States, Zelensky is set to present a comprehensive peace plan to President Joe Biden.
He emphasized that the plan is not a negotiation with Russia but a diplomatic framework to end the conflict while securing victory for Ukraine through continued military support from its allies.
“We need our allies to bolster our army. This isn’t about talking to Russia—it’s about building the strength to bring this war to a close,” Zelensky told reporters, ahead of his highly anticipated meeting with Biden.
Despite Zelensky’s optimism, the Kremlin remains defiant. A Kremlin spokesperson reiterated that the conflict would only end when Russia’s military objectives are fully achieved, casting doubt over the possibility of a swift resolution. Zelensky, however, has made it clear that the path to peace requires sustained support from Western powers.
One of Zelensky’s top priorities during his U.S. visit is securing approval for the use of long-range missiles, which would allow Ukraine to target deeper into Russian territory. The decision remains with President Biden, who has so far hesitated on lifting restrictions. “America’s leadership is critical for our defense,” Zelensky asserted, noting that long-range missiles could shift the balance on the battlefield.
In addition to his meeting with Biden, Zelensky is set to address the United Nations General Assembly and meet with U.S. presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, underscoring the significance of his trip amid escalating diplomatic tensions.
Meanwhile, on the ground in Ukraine, the situation remains dire. Russian forces continue to launch attacks in cities such as Kharkiv, Poltava, and Zaporizhzhia, resulting in civilian casualties and infrastructure damage.
Russian troops have made significant advances in the eastern region and are nearing the strategic town of Vuhledar. Ukrainian military experts have warned of potential territorial losses, urging the public to brace for more challenging times ahead.
Zelensky’s peace plan, though not yet fully revealed, comes at a critical juncture in the conflict. As Ukraine faces intensifying Russian assaults, the diplomatic efforts spearheaded by Zelensky in Washington could shape the course of the war. His ability to rally Western support, particularly from the U.S., may determine whether Ukraine can secure both peace and victory on its own terms.
