Former President Donald Trump’s Florida golf course on Sunday afternoon when Secret Service agents thwarted an apparent assassination attempt. The suspect, identified as Ryan Routh, was taken into custody after agents spotted a rifle barrel and opened fire.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect attempted to flee the scene in a black Nissan car but was later apprehended by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities recovered an AK47-style firearm, a scope, two backpacks, and a GoPro camera from the scene.
The suspect’s intentions and actions are still unclear, but the Secret Service confirmed that their agents engaged with the suspect. It is uncertain whether the suspect fired at the former president or the agents.
In an email to his supporters, Trump reassured them of his safety and well-being, stating that “nothing will slow him down.”
This incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of public figures and the measures in place to protect them. An investigation is ongoing, and more information is expected to be released in the coming days.
