The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary Caucus has postponed the presentation of critical bills aimed at streamlining government agencies and public spending, choosing to consult further with President Yoweri Museveni and key parliamentary committees before moving forward.

The Caucus has decided to delay the introduction of the Rationalisation of Government Agencies and Public Expenditure (RAPEX) Bills in Parliament.

This decision, made during a caucus meeting at State House Entebbe on Friday this week, signals the party’s intent to ensure thorough consultation before enacting significant changes.

The meeting, chaired by Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua, focused on a keynote address from NRM Party National Chairman, President Yoweri Museveni, who emphasized the strategic importance of the rationalisation efforts.

Museveni highlighted that the proposed bills are crucial to achieving the NRA/M’s historical mission of socio-economic transformation in Uganda.

The rationalisation process aims to address institutional harmony, reduce functional duplications, and ensure government spending is both efficient and affordable.

However, before the bills are presented to Parliament, the NRM caucus will first meet with President Museveni, alongside committees on Agriculture, National Economy, and Finance, to gather further insights and align on the best path forward.

This deferment reflects the NRM’s commitment to thoughtful governance, ensuring that the reforms will truly benefit Uganda’s socio-economic landscape before they are brought to the legislative floor.
