In a recent event at Nakulabye Skilling Centre, the Minister of General Duties in the Office of the Prime Minister, Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba, delivered empowering advice to beneficiaries of the Presidential Initiative on Skilling the Girl and Boy Child (PISGBC). With a fervent emphasis on quality and discipline, minister. Lumumba underscored the importance of maintaining high standards in skill utilization.

Addressing students in various vocational disciplines including leather designing, tailoring, and hairdressing, Hon. Lumumba stressed the significance of producing top-tier products.

“You must ensure that the products you make are of high standards and good quality,” she urged, “Even when you are modeling or showcasing your fashion designs, you must keep doing the right thing, smile, and be confident.”

Hon. Lumumba’s remarks come in light of the showcasing ceremony of products made by students at Nakulabye Skilling Centre, housed at Our Lady of Fatima Parish Church in Rubaga Division. She commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for initiating the project, highlighting its potential to uplift vulnerable youth in Kampala City by eradicating poverty.

Furthermore, Rt.Hon. Lumumba emphasized the importance of discipline and moral uprightness in utilizing acquired skills, urging students to become change agents in their communities. Notably, she lauded the incorporation of sports into the skilling process, recognizing its role in talent nurturing and networking among students.

In a pledge to support the graduates, Rt.Hon. Lumumba vowed to lobby for the establishment of production lines, particularly at Namanve Industrial Park, to absorb skilling center graduates. She also expressed gratitude to Fr. Emmanuel Ssenkusu for providing space for youth skill development.

Joining the chorus of encouragement, Ms. Babirye Yudaya Kigenyi, the Minister of Busoga Kingdom in charge of the Kyabazinga Affairs, stressed the importance of moral behavior, echoing Hon. Lumumba’s sentiments.

Ms. Amina Lukanga, the Kampala Resident City Commissioner, echoed similar sentiments, calling on students to uphold good morals and utilize their skills to uplift their lives.

Ms. Sarah Turyareeba, the Administrator of Nakulabye Skilling Centre, announced that 228 students had completed their six-month courses and were poised to become self-employed and job creators.

The event was attended by stakeholders including the State House Comptroller, Ms. Jane Barekye, and Dr. Faith Katana, the Head of PISGBC and Special Presidential Assistant on Education and Skilling, reflecting the collective effort to realize President Museveni’s vision for youth empowerment and skill development.
