Uganda and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Uganda Airlines has received the green light from the UAE Civil Aviation Authority to operate direct flights from Entebbe to Abu Dhabi.
The breakthrough came following a crucial meeting held on April 24th, 2024, between the Uganda Embassy in Abu Dhabi, headed by Ambassador Zaake Kibedi, and the Director-General of the UAE Civil Aviation Authority.
Ambassador Kibedi expressed optimism, stating, “Uganda Airlines is expected to commence operating direct flights from Entebbe to Abu Dhabi, a move that will boost trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between the two nations.”
With the airline diligently working to fulfill the requisite formalities, the commencement of direct flights is anticipated in the near future. Uganda Airlines, already serving various African destinations including Nairobi, Mogadishu, Juba, and Dar-es-Salaam, is now expanding its footprint into the Middle East.
In a bid to further enhance connectivity, Uganda Airlines is set to engage in discussions with Etihad Airways’ top management to explore the possibility of a codeshare agreement. Such a partnership would not only broaden the regional and global reach of both airlines but also offer enhanced travel options and convenience for passengers.
The introduction of direct flights between Entebbe and Abu Dhabi is poised to bring about significant benefits, including reduced travel time and strengthened economic and tourism ties between Uganda and the UAE. This strategic move by Uganda Airlines underscores its commitment to tapping into the burgeoning demand for air travel and cargo transportation in the Middle East market.
