Speaker of Parliament Anita Among led a Parliament team including Commissioner Hon Mathias Mpuuga to inspect works at Mandela National Stadium.
The tour was guided by army officials under the oversight of Sports State Minister Hon Peter Ogwang. Speaker Among expressed her satisfaction with the work accomplished by the UPDF Engineering Brigade.
“I must commend the UPDF Engineering Brigade for their exceptional work. It surpassed my expectations,” stated Among.
To ensure financial transparency and accuracy, Parliament will undertake a forensic audit to assess the funds required to complete the project. Among instructed Hon Mpuuga to thoroughly review the facility and identify areas that need attention.
“We will carry out a forensic audit to track expenditures and determine the additional funding necessary due to project variations,” she added.
Minister Ogwang directed the contractors to finish any remaining work and hand over the stadium within two weeks in preparation for the African Nations Championships (CHAN) in June.
The stadium plays a key role in Uganda’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) competition.
With an allocation of Shs80 billion already released, final construction requires the full disbursement of the Shs97 billion appropriated for the project. Parliament recently urged Finance State Minister Hon Amos Lugoloobi to release the outstanding Shs17.7 billion to ensure project completion.
In response to Minister Ogwang’s request, Speaker Among directed the immediate removal of Pioneer Bus Limited vehicles parked on the stadium’s premises ahead of future inspections.
