During the commemoration of United Nations anniversary celebration at Mbarara high school in Mbarara city, the Minister for General Duties/Focal Point Minister for SDGs, Rt. Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba complemented the UN family in Uganda for the various peace and poverty reduction interventions over the passed 77 years. She passionately urged for promotion of SDGs,
integrated programs into the NDP III and its full achievement and realization. She also urged for development of institutions for better service delivery in line with the UN agenda devoid of corruption.
UN was celebrating it’s 77year since it’s birth on 25th October, 1962. The event was attended by political and technical leaders in Mbarara city, district and others from districts in western Uganda, more especially those districts hosting refugees, the UN family, medical institution, refugees and officials of UN family in Uganda
As a country we have since worked in partnership with the UN in different ways to support peace, development and humanitarian action in both our own country and other countries, she said.
In 2015 the UN General assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda under Uganda’s presidency. The Sustainable Development Goals are aimed at transforming our world and ending poverty everywhere and for everyone. Uganda had ensured alignment of the SDGs to our National vision 2040 and our other plans and strategies. The third National development plan is over 90% aligned to the global goals and the new Parish Development Model is all about ensuring that no one is left behind, especially those most vulnerable and hardest to reach.
