His passion for music ignited during his high school years, leading him to produce his first song during his Senior Six. He credits his late mother for her unwavering support, as she financed his initial studio session, laying the foundation for his burgeoning career.
In 2022, Xed 256 achieved significant recognition with his breakthrough track “Eddie Beibe.”(Omwaana Omulabye) The song garnered extensive airplay on radio and television stations across Uganda and sparked a viral TikTok challenge, amplifying his reach and popularity. This success opened doors to performances on prominent stages in both Kampala and the Tooro region. Notably, in July 2023, he graced the “Kwegonze Avenue ,” (Batooro Kwegonza )an event celebrating Batooro culture in central Kampala.
Tragically, shortly after this milestone performance, Xed 256 faced the profound loss of his mother, his greatest supporter. Channeling his grief into creativity, he released the heartfelt tribute “Adyeeri” later that year, honoring her memory and resilience.
Between 2023 and 2024, Xed 256 continued to showcase his versatility with tracks like “Kumba” and “Misuwa,” further solidifying his place in the Ugandan music scene. His unique style, characterized by a fusion of languages and contemporary beats, resonates with a diverse audience, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of his heritage.

“Fort Portal ni Dubai” is a phrase used by the Ugandan musician Xed 256 (Edward Muligirwa). It translates to “Fort Portal is Dubai” in English, where
“ni” means “is” in Swahili. This slogan is intended to draw a parallel between Fort Portal, a town in Uganda known for its scenic beauty and tranquility, and Dubai, known for its luxury and development. Xed 256 uses this phrase to promote and celebrate the beauty and potential of Fort Portal and, by extension, Africa, suggesting that it has the charm and allure comparable to that of a global city like Dubai. It’s a form of local pride and an attempt to reframe how both locals and outsiders might view the town.
As the release date approaches, the excitement is palpable. Fans and music enthusiasts alike are poised to embrace “Ayee,” anticipating that it will not only captivate listeners but also cement Xed 256’s status as a trailblazer in the Ugandan music scene. With his unwavering passion and innovative spirit, Xed 256 is undoubtedly an artist to watch in the coming years.
