A young man identified as Benjamin Agaba set himself on fire near the entrance of Parliament on Wednesday morning in a shocking act of desperation.
Agaba, who claimed he had been neglected by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), poured a flammable liquid on himself before igniting the flames.
Eyewitnesses say security personnel and bystanders quickly intervened, managing to put out the fire before he suffered fatal burns. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, though his current condition remains unknown.
Agaba reportedly accused the NRM of abandoning him after his property was vandalized by National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters. He also claimed his father was left homeless due to their political affiliations.
According to his statements, he had been seeking help from NRM offices for over a year but was ignored.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
