A federal grand jury has indicted 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh on charges of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump, a presidential candidate.
The indictment carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment and adds to Routh’s existing gun-related charges, which could result in an additional 20 years behind bars.
Routh was arrested near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida after authorities uncovered a disturbing note written months earlier in which he explicitly threatened to kill the former president.
