The African peer review symposium (APRM) which is currently going on at speak resort hotel, munyono for a full week has officially been graced and opened up by President Museveni, the theme of the symposium is “Reposition the youth agenda for a transformative continent with main focus on a project doubled the one million next level initiative which has been launched by the President
The event is being attended by different delegates from all African countries and other continents. Ugandan ministers led by the prime minister, European Union envoys, African Union envoys , APRM secretariat, youth leaders
In his address, H.E Museveni emphasised that youths in Africa should mainly focus on two missions The strategic security and prosperity as well as ideology
The President tasked youths attending mainly to focus on patriotism, pan Africanism , social economic transformation as well as democracy
He also told youths to focus on ideology ,strategy and prosperity
The prime minister of Uganda whose office is coordinating the symposium led by Rt. Hon. Justine kasule lumumba the minister general duties told delegates that the NRM government in Uganda has been able to include youths in political affairs of the country by creating five elective post for youth MPs from the four regions of the country, the prime minister also added that youth councils have been created from the village level to national level thus creating opportunities for youths to fully utilise and engage in all government programs
In her conclusion the prime minister encouraged the youths of Uganda to actively participate in the parish development model since youths have been allocated 30% of the money
Further more on the ongoing symposium the head of the European Union in Uganda ambassador HE Attillio pacific pledged more support of 17 million euros 💶 to the APRM to create more youth jobs through entrepreneurship, equipping youths with life skills to fit in the labour market, set up youth innovations in the end this will help youths of Africa to engage more in all social and economic development of Africa as well improve the welfare of the girl by closing the gender gap
Also the head of the African Union (AU) Mrs CHIDO MPEMBE said this years 3rd APRM symposium is mainly focusing on implementing the 4Es which include Education, employment, entrepreneurship and engagement. In her remarks she said this will help to achieve the agenda of reaching the then one million next level which is the key focus of the 3rd APRM symposium
In conclusion the hon minister for state children and youth affairs mrs Sarah Mateke said the government of Uganda is focusing on youth centers ideas which include, empowerment, health and sexual reproductive wellbeing, employment, financial literacy to equip youths with knowledge on how to managed government funded programs like the youth lively hood program
