A group of police officers from the Alur Police Community, based at Naguru Police Headquarters, has come together to contribute UGX 2.3 million towards the preparations for Martyrs Day celebrations set to occur on June 3, 2024.
John Kennedy Ocham, the head of the police community group, disclosed that the initiative began when Nebbi Catholic Diocese was entrusted with leading the Martyrs Day celebrations for the year 2024. Since December 2023, these officers, coordinated through a WhatsApp group, pooled their resources and efforts, successfully raising the substantial sum.
Additionally, Ocham highlighted the officers’ commitment to provide supplementary assistance, including security and shelter arrangements, throughout the preparation period. This dedication underscores their determination to ensure the smooth and secure execution of the event.
Anticipation is high as approximately 700 Christians from Nebbi are expected to embark on a pilgrimage covering a distance of 438 kilometers to Namugongo on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. This pilgrimage symbolizes a profound spiritual journey commemorating the lives and sacrifices of the martyrs.
The contribution and support from the Alur Police Community serve as a testament to the spirit of unity and collaboration within law enforcement, as well as the broader community, in honoring religious traditions and fostering harmony during significant cultural events.
This collective effort exemplifies the unwavering commitment of the police force to serve and safeguard communities beyond their official duties, reinforcing the bond between law enforcement and the public they serve.
As preparations continue, the generous contribution from the Alur Police Community stands as a beacon of hope and solidarity, embodying the essence of Martyrs Day celebrations and the values of unity and service.
