Dr. Rosemary Alwoc, the Forum for Democratic Change party flag bearer for the Dokolo woman MP by-election, has pledged to continue the work of her late mother, Cecilia Ogwal. As she prepares for the campaign, Alwoc has offered bursaries and scholastic materials to 200 students whom her mother looked after. She spoke at her official unveiling at the FDC headquarters in Kampala
The FDC on Wednesday 14 unveiled Dr. Olwoc Rosemary Ogwal as there were members of the party who expressed interest in contesting, the decision to support Dr. Olwoc follows discussions between the party leadership, the family of the late Hon. Cecilia Atim Ogwal, and FDC members in Dokolo. Instead of holding primary elections, the party reached a consensus among its members.
Dr. Alwoc Rosemary Ogwal who is the daughter of Imat Cecilia Ogwal willingly sacrificed her comfort to continue the initiatives that Imat Cecilia Ogwal was deeply passionate about.
Dr. Alwoc noted that her involvement in the politics of Dokolo started many years ago since she would closely work with and guide her late mother in various activities. According to Alwoc, she can only deliver her late mother’s remaining plans for the people of Dokolo once given the leadership mandate.
The position fell vacant following the demise of Cecilia Ogwal on January 18 2024, after a short illness. about 13 other women have shown interest to represent the district in the 11th Parliament of Uganda.
On Monday February 12 the Electoral Commission Chairman Justice Simon Byabakama unveiled the election roadmap in Dokolo. Nominations are set for 11th-12th March, with campaigns kicking off on March 13 to 19. Voting is slated for March 21.
